Desk News: The university’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr. ASM Amanullah has said that there has been no decision to close any honors courses at National University. He confirmed this information in a Facebook post on Tuesday (June 9).
In a post on Facebook, the VC said, “There is no decision from the government or from our side to close any honors courses at National University.”
Earlier, a news story spread on social media that, “According to the new draft model of the Ministry of Education, honors courses in about 6 subjects, including Bengali, history, and philosophy, are being canceled and these subjects will be coordinated with other subjects.”
After such news spread, there was a negative reaction among netizens. However, the Ministry of Education also said that the claim is completely baseless.

Although discussions and reviews are underway at various levels regarding higher education reforms and curriculum review, it is learnt that the government has not yet taken any policy decision to stop honors education in basic subjects like Bengali, history and philosophy.
People from all walks of life have been urged to seek information from the Ministry of Education and official sources of the government rather than being misled by these rumors on social media.
