There is no regular election officer in the election office of Barura upazila of Comilla district. Officers with additional responsibility have been working since last 3-4 months. Load shedding like electricity is increasing day by day. Hundreds of new National Identity Card (NID) applications are being submitted every day. But until submission is over. Among them – some people are working through passport, ticket and recommendation of a particular person. On the ground investigation, it is known that after the transfer of Barura Upazila Election Officer Md. Azharul Islam, the suffering of the service receivers who came to the election office started. Various officers of Election Office are involved in all activities including new NID and revision. At present, since there is no regular election officer in Barura, additional officers are performing the duties here. In the past four months, two people have changed. At present, the election officer in charge of Laksam upazila Md Rajibul Karim has been performing additional duties in Barura upazila two days a week on Monday and Wednesday. As the population of Barura upazila is larger, the work of the citizens in the office is getting longer in order, to get relief from this, when asked to the officer who is carrying additional responsibility, he said, I have to work two days a week in Barura upazila while continuing the regular activities of Laksam upazila. Also, he added, the people coming to do the new NID should know the education given. He said that no person of 3rd, 4th class or illiterate can be a voter. Manjurul Alam, senior election officer of Comilla district, was asked about this on mobile phone and he said that there is no instruction regarding educational qualification, any Bangladeshi has the right to vote at the age of maturity. But many people try to become voters by hiding information and using fake fraud. These matters have been caught in our hands several times in the preliminary investigation. He said that there is no educational qualification requirement to become a voter. During the conversation of the beneficiaries who came to the Barura election office, they said that if they give money to the Barura office, everything will be done. No work is done without money. There are many types of problems. If you pay again, there is no problem. Several people who did not wish to be named said, I do not understand the reason for harassing the common people with such conditions. He also said that the Barura election office has turned into an arena of corruption with misconduct and harassment. Also, the level of harassment of service seekers continues to rise. Hence, they sought the intervention of appropriate authorities to get the matter remedied.
