The much-debated Digital Security Act is getting a name change. The new name is the Cyber Security Act. At the same time many sections of the law are being amended.
The proposal in this regard has been approved in the cabinet meeting on Monday (August 7). Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque told reporters this information.
A cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office on Monday morning. It was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The law minister told reporters that the name of the ‘Digital Security Act’ is being changed. Its new name will be ‘Cyber Security Act’.
He also said that at the same time, changes are being made in many sections of the law. The proposal in this regard was approved in the cabinet meeting today.
The government enacted the Digital Security Act in 2018. After that, the law was being misused and there were demands for the cancellation of the law from various levels.
The Law Minister had earlier informed that the Digital Security Act is being amended by next September.
