A press conference was held at the Moulvibazar Online Press Club on May 26th in protest against the attacks and torture due to a previous dispute. In exchange for a large amount of money, the accused Jilal Miagongs illegally provided a false report contrary to the truth, stating that my husband’s medical injury certificate was a simple injury sustained with a blunt weapon, and there were fears that the trial of the case would be diverted to a different sector and that justice would be denied. The victim’s wife, Dilawara Begum, held a press conference demanding that the medical injury certificate be reissued correctly and the case be further investigated and a report submitted.
In a written statement, she said – On 01/07/2023, at approximately 2 pm, Jilal Miagongs severely injured my husband Suruj Mia by cutting his head with a sharp knife. With the intention of killing, he was stabbed in the navel and the right side of the stomach. Which required 5 stitches. Tawheed Mia stabbed him with an iron rod, causing a fatal blood clot above his left eye. Their accomplices stabbed, punched, and kicked him in different parts of the body. At that time, the family members including his wife came and heard the screams and the attackers beat them up too. At that time, the neighbor rescued him in a seriously injured condition and admitted him to the 1st Kamalganj Upazila Health Hospital (from 01/07/2023 to 02/07/2023). He was given 5 stitches on his head while he was dying at Gopalnagar Hospital. Since he did not recover even after receiving treatment, he was treated at the city’s Nurjahan (Pvt) Hospital, Moulvibazar, for advanced treatment on 02/07/2023. In this incident, the deceased Abdun Nur Mia’s son Jilal Mia (55), Jilal Mia’s son Tawhid Mia (35), Shahid Mia (30), and Jilal Mia’s wife Rushna Begum (40) of the same area were accused by the gangs. When the Moulvibazar Senior Judicial Magistrate, 3rd Administrative Court filed a case (CR Case No. 377/2023 (Kamalganj)), the learned court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Moulvibazar to investigate the case and submit a report. PBI Investigation Officer, BP-9117198730, Sub-Inspector (Retd) Sharif Uddin, on 29/11/2023, submitted an investigation report to the learned court (Ref. No. PBI/Molvibazar District/2255, Date: 29/11/2023). He reviewed the complaint and mentioned partial truth in the report, and mentioned the injuries caused by blunt force trauma. The plaintiff in the case, Suruj Mia, filed an objection against the investigation report. The learned court directed the Officer-in-Charge, District Detective Branch, Moulvibazar, on 29/01/2024, to investigate the case further and submit a report. She alleged that her husband Suruj Mia and her family members are in extreme security situation due to harassment, intimidation, and threats by various people of the influential Tawheed Mia gang. Suruj Mia, Abdul Barik, Md. Shahid Mia, etc. were present at the press conference.
