Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox’s Bazar is becoming the main center of the country’s energy sector. The citizens have started reaping the benefits of the various mega projects undertaken by the Prime Minister. Already SPM projects, LNG terminals, deep sea ports and coal based power plants have been commissioned. The process of using the deep sea port commercially has started. The picture of the whole country is changing with the mega project of Maheshkhali. In keeping with the times, changes have come in all sectors due to the revolutionary steps taken by the current government one after another. The country’s energy sector is ahead in this race of development.
The ‘Installation of Single Point Mooring (SPM) with Double Pipe Line’ project has been implemented in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali to extract oil from the deep sea by excluding traditional methods. Through this, the oil will be released through a pipeline from a buoy installed in the deep sea on the western side of Maheshkhali Island. Through this pipeline, the oil will reach the Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL) in Chittagong through this pipeline. The stakeholders said that if the project officially starts oil release, it will save 800 crores annually. money 12 days work will be done in 48 hours. Oil can be stored in 3 tanks of 50,000 cubic meters and 3 of 30,000 cubic meters. According to project sources, SPM project will bring a revolutionary change in the country’s import-dependent fuel oil redemption. Already 97 percent of the project has been completed. If this project of 7 thousand 140 crore rupees is launched, 9 million tons of oil can be released every year. 1 lakh 20 thousand tons of crude oil will be released in 48 hours. It will take only 28 hours to discharge 70 thousand tons of diesel. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the project this year after commissioning and testing. The SPM buoy has been installed in the Bay of Bengal on the western side of Maheshkhali Island. Fuel oil imported in large ships from abroad will be stored in storage tanks installed at Maheshkhali through pipelines. From there, in addition to the storage tanks of Patenga depot of Chittagong, Eastern Refinery, if necessary, it will be stored in various storage tanks of oil marketing companies and supplied all over the country. If the SPM project is implemented, there will be no more hurdles in releasing fuel during natural calamities. This will ensure energy security. The basic infrastructure of the SPM project has been built on 191 acres of land of the forest department in Maheshkhali Island.
Out of this, 3 total 6 storage tanks have been constructed. The storage tanks are built about 20 feet above the ground. So that water cannot rise in storage during floods or major natural disasters. 2 separate pipelines of 36 radius from SPM have been connected to the deep Bay of Bengal. SPM project officer Monjed Ali Shanto said that this is a priority project of the Prime Minister. Once it starts working, we will be able to pump the crude oil to Eastern Refinery in Chittagong. He said that 97 percent of our project has already been completed. Fast forward to project commissioning and testing. The prime minister will inaugurate the commissioning and testing work after successful completion. Besides, the LNG terminal is making an important contribution to the energy sector. 100% of the project has already been completed. Gas is being supplied to Dhaka through Anwara gas transmission line via Maheshkhali. If there is any problem in this fiber line, Dhaka residents have to suffer. Disruption in production is being caused in various industrial plants. Production has already started in the coal-based power plant, although it is experimental, one unit will be commissioned next December and another unit will be commissioned in April 2024. Maheshkhali Qutubdia Member of Parliament Ashek Ullah Rafiq said that these mega projects are in the middle of implementation. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken the country a long way in making it a developing country. If the Awami League wins again in the next parliamentary elections, Bangladesh will become one of the most economically powerful states in the world under the leadership of the honorable Prime Minister.
