From January 6, 2009 to August 5, 2024, district magistrates approved 261 firearms licenses issued for personal security in six upazilas of Kushtia.
In Kushtia, the latest legal weapons have been deposited at 247. Additional District Magistrate Jahangir Alam told the correspondent that 14 weapons have not been deposited . Among these weapons, 12 in Kushtia Sadar Upazila, 1 each in Daulatpur Thana and EB Thana have not been deposited. These weapons are likely to be deposited during the rest of the time (until 12:00 PM on September 3). In a notification issued by the Political-4 branch of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 25, the license of firearms issued to civilians from January 6, 2009 to August 5, 2024 was suspended and the firearms along with ammunition were ordered to be submitted to the concerned police station by September 3. According to the instructions, if the firearms are not deposited at the designated place by September 3, they will be treated as illegal weapons and a case will be filed under the Arms Act. Moreover, any person has been requested to deposit the looted weapons and ammunition with the police before September 3. Otherwise legal action will be taken against them.
