All departments, organizations and institutions under the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives are working to ensure civic amenities in flood-affected areas. The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is making efforts to keep shelters ready, road connectivity across the country uninterrupted and speedy repair of damaged roads. According to the information available from LGED, 7 thousand 722 km of roads and 1 thousand 101 bridges/culverts have been primarily damaged due to recent heavy rains and landslides. So far 51 km of roads and 96 bridges/culverts have been repaired by LGED.
Directorate of Public Health Engineering is working to ensure supply of clean water and sanitation system in flood affected areas. According to the information available till August 29, 2024, 38 lakh 34 thousand water purification tablets have been distributed in 11 flood-affected districts from local government departments. 23 thousand 927 jerrycans were distributed and 4 thousand 137 hygiene kits were distributed with the help of UNICEF.
Through various local government institutions under the jurisdiction of the local government department today in the flood affected areas Dry food has been distributed to 63 thousand 274 people. 1 lakh 77 thousand 328 people have been rescued and 1 lakh 34 thousand 320 people have been distributed food in shelters. Also, Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) has so far distributed 1 lakh 70 thousand 505 liters of safe drinking water through 8 (Feni 5, Moulvibazar 1, Noakhali 1, and Comilla 1) mobile water treatment across the country.
Although the flood situation has improved in Habiganj, Khagrachari, Feni, Chittagong, Rangamati and Brahmanbaria districts, the flood situation remains stable in Comilla, Noakhali, Sunamganj, Laxmipur, and Moulvibazar districts. No district was inundated again.
