The foam is floating in the water coming down from Tripura, India. Houses in rural areas of the district including the city have been submerged since Wednesday (August 21). Even though the water started receding from some areas, the flood situation did not improve. The scene is a flood scar. Most of the areas are still disconnected.
Due to lack of electricity and mobile phone network, some are unable to trace anyone. Although boats and speedboats have been brought from different districts of the country, the rescue work is going on slowly due to the strong current and unfamiliar roads. However, the army, BGB helicopters continued to rescue.
On the surface, it was seen that water has gone down from SSK road, trunk road, Mizan road of the city. Old Jail Road, College Road, Mizan Road, Cadet College Road, Doctorpara, Masterpara, Rampur, Old Police Quarter, Shaheen Academy area, Chandipur, Birinchi, Bananipara are almost all under water. All areas of 108 wards of 12 unions of Sadar are completely flooded.
In Parashuram, Chagalnaya, Fulgazi upazilas, even though the water has receded, adequate relief is not being reached due to broken roads. Most of the areas of Daganbhuna and Sonagazi upazilas have been submerged. Apart from government shelters, lakhs of people have taken shelter in schools-colleges, mosques, madrasas or high-rise buildings.
Talking to the locals, it is known that the border areas of Parshuram Municipality bordering Baurpathar, Solia, Anantapur, Chithlia of Chithlia Union, Alka, Nowapur, Dhanikunda, Durgapur, Kautli of Mirzanagar Union, Champaknagar, Satkuchia village of Buxmahmud Union are not getting food since the floods.
Similarly, no food has reached Lakshmipur, Baghaia, Satsati, Izzatpur, Motbi, Ganganagar, Shibpur, Battali areas of Fazilpur union in Feni Sadar upazila. However, the suburbs and the villages around the highway have lost some food.
Deputy Commissioner Mushammat Shahina Akhtar told the media that although the water has started receding in some areas, rescue operations are continuing with the coordination of army, coast guard, fire service and students. So far, 1,600 packets of dry food have been distributed. So far, 500 tons of rice and 10 lakh taka have been allocated from the concerned ministry in Feni.
