A workshop on phased cessation of use of drums in purchase and sale of edible oil has been held under the joint initiative of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department and the National Heart Foundation.
The workshop was held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 10 am at the conference room of the Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner under the chairmanship of Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Rakib Haider.
Jannatul Ferdous, Assistant Director of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, presented a slide on consumers and consumer rights, after which a TVC video was shown highlighting the importance of stopping the unsafe use of edible oil drums.
The workshop’s special guest and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and Consultant (Advocacy), Founding Chairman of National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh, Mushtaq Hasan Muh. Iftikhar, presented and analyzed a presentation titled “The Role of Local Influential Individuals in Stopping the Use of Drums to Maintain the Quality of Edible Oil”.
Fakir Munawar Hossain, Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Program Research Laboratory, National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Ministry of Commerce, was present as the chief guest and delivered a speech.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahbubur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Abdul Hakim, Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Lalmonirhat Sheikh Sadi, General Secretary of Lalmonirhat District Committee of Consumer Rights Protection Department of Bangladesh (CAB) Touhidul Islam (Liton), CAB members, business representatives and journalists were also present.
Lalmonirhat District Commissioner HM Rakib Haider said, “Avoid dirty drums. Use clean soybean oil. Exchange views with everyone to increase awareness.”
