SB-Sujon, Lalmonirhat: Former member secretary of Lalmonirhat Press Club and senior journalist Md. Liaquat Ali has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He breathed his last at 10:15 am today at the 250-bed Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.
He was 69 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and numerous admirers. The district’s journalist community has expressed deep grief over his death.
According to family sources, Md. Liaquat Ali fell ill at his residence this morning and was rushed to Sadar Hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment. The deceased’s son Naeem Khan Saad (19) said that his father had been suffering from various physical complications for a long time.
According to Lalmonirhat Press Club sources, the funeral prayer of the deceased will be held today after Isha at the local Nesaria Kamil Madrasa ground. The burial will be completed later as per the family’s decision.
The death of Liaqat Ali has cast a shadow of grief on the journalist community of the district. Various social, cultural and professional organizations including Lalmonirhat Press Club have expressed deep shock and expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Recalling the career of the deceased, former General Secretary of Lalmonirhat Press Club Ahmedur Rahman Mukul said, Liaqat Ali has worked in journalism with great reputation in various national and regional newspapers including Dainik Poribesh, Dainik Rangpur Chitra, Nabchetna for almost three decades. As a simple and decent person, he was respected by everyone.
Former Joint General Secretary of Lalmonirhat Press Club and senior journalist Asadul Islam Sabuj expressed deep grief over his death and said, Liaqat Ali was a dedicated journalist. In his long journalistic career, he has objectively highlighted various problems, prospects and issues related to public interest of Lalmonirhat district in the media. Through responsible journalism, he has made an important contribution to the service of the society.
He said, the journalist community of Lalmonirhat is deeply saddened by the death of Liaquat Ali. I express my deepest condolences to his bereaved family. His work and contribution as an honest and professional journalist will be remembered forever.
