In 5 upazilas of Lalmonirhat district, 30 crores of 2 thousand 534 projects have been worked out of about 80 crores of rupees. The concerned project implementation officials have shown fake vouchers in the name of works of about 50 crore taka without doing the work of these government allocations.
Allegations have been found that the government has looted this huge sum of money by colluding with the project chairmen. These works under the Rural Infrastructure Reform and Maintenance Scheme for the financial year 2023-2024 have been completed on June 30, 2024.
Lalmonirhat District Relief Office said that these allocations were spent on construction of culverts, bridges, EGPP, herring bonds, and flood shelters, but about 50 crores were allocated by the government in five upazilas across the district. The concerned Project Implementation Officers coordinate with the Project Chairmen. Looting has been alleged.
Lalmonirhat District Relief Office also said that the government allocation of 664 projects including food grains in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila is 23 crores 39 lakhs 8 thousand 27 taka 65 paisa. 9 crore 14 lakh 18 thousand 392 taka 03 paisa in 483 projects including food grains in Patgram upazila, 10 crore 76 lakh 40 thousand 597 taka 11 paisa in 390 projects including food grains in Hatibandha upazila. In Kaliganj upazila 6 crore 60 lakh 43 thousand 127 taka 84 paise including food grains and in Aditmari upazila government allocation of 14 crore 9 lakh 57 thousand 841 taka 56 paisa for 468 projects has been done according to rules.
It has been alleged that the existence of most of these projects has not been traced. A citizen of Lalmonirhat said that he has already sent a written complaint to the concerned departments in the case of looting without working properly with a huge amount of money allocated by the government.
And when the project implementation officer of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Moshiur Rahman and other related project implementation officers were contacted, none of them received the phone.
