The police have arrested four people in connection with the theft of money from a foreigner from Hotel Raj in Patgram, Lalmonirhat. Private car driver Alam, hotel employees Firoz, Malek and Raihan were arrested around 11 am on Saturday (November 2).

It is learned that a foreigner named Mr. Heri (52) came to Bangladesh from Greece on a tourist visa on Thursday. Later, he landed at the Saidpur airport on Friday with a guide named Milan from Dhaka. After that, Mr. Heri and guide Milan rented a private car and visited various places in Dahagram, Angarpota and Burimari land ports and spent the night in room number 211 on the second floor of Hotel Raj next to the Patgram Upazila Parishad.

Guide Milan said, I was in room number 209 on the third floor.  Private car driver Alam was in room number 309. He also said that on Saturday morning, Mr. Harry reported that 4,200 euros (600,000 Bangladeshi taka) and 9,000 Bangladeshi taka in his bag had been stolen.

At that time, I saw that the door of my room was locked from the outside. Later, I left the room and reported the matter to the police station.

Safiar Rahman, the owner of Hotel Raj, said, I was in Rangpur because I was sick. After learning about the incident, I quickly went to the hotel. The police have observed the room where Mr. Harry was staying along with the hotel’s CCTV footage. Guide Milon believes that private car driver Alam and hotel employees may be involved in the incident.

In this regard, Patgram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafuzzaman Sarkar said that the CCTV footage is being reviewed along with the interrogation of the detainees.
