A college student named Abu Talha (18) died after drowning in Teesta river at Lalmonirhat. The accident took place on Saturday (June 3) at No. 5 Solid Spur Dam of Teesta River in Jagatber area of Rajpur Union of Sadar Upazila.
The deceased college student Talha is the only son of Azahar Ali, a businessman of Kalimmor Bazar in Syedpur Upazila of Nilphamari district.
Locals said that Talha along with her parents came to Jagatber village of Rajpur in Lalmonirhat on Friday for her sister-in-law’s wedding.
Along with four cousins, Talha went to take a bath in the nearby Solidi Spur Dam area of Teesta River. Not knowing how to swim, Talha drowned.
The rest reach the shore and realize that Talha has drowned. After realizing the matter from a distance, a fisherman went and quickly rescued Talha.
Later, the locals took him to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared Talha dead. Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ershadul Alam confirmed the truth of the incident.
