It has been alleged that a young man named Suman (25) has died after being tortured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Burirhat border in Kaliganj of Lalmonirhat.

He died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Tuesday (February 28) evening.  The deceased is the son of Alauddin of North Balapara village of Chandrapur Union of Suman Upazila.

Earlier on Sunday (February 26) early morning. Locals claimed that he was tortured inside India in Pillar No. 913 area of ​​Burirhat border of Kaliganj Upazila.

Police and border residents said that on Sunday, some people including Suman entered India illegally through pillar 913 area of ​​Burirhat border.  On the way back from there, the patrolling members of West Chamta camp of BSF 75 battalion chased and caught Suman.

Then they beat him with a stick and Suman lost consciousness.  After that, when the BSF members left Suman, the companions managed to rescue him and brought him to the country and admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.  He died on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment there.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) Habibur Rahman said that Suman’s body will be handed over to his family after the legal process is completed.
