Four brothers of ex-parliamentarian and ex-social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed of Lalmonirhat-2 (Aditmari-Kaliganj) constituency have been accused of beating up a woman and looting construction materials. Their neighbor and college teacher S Tabassum Raihan Mustazir filed a case under the Speedy Justice Act in this incident.
On Sunday (September 1), the judge of Lalmonirhat speedy trial court said. After hearing the complaint, Iqbal Hasan ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj police station to accept it as a statement. OC Imtiaz Kabir said legal action will be taken on the complaint as per the court order.
The accused are- Nuruzzaman Ahmed’s brother businessman and contractor Shamsuzzaman Ahmed (55), former chairman of Kaliganj Upazila Parishad and Lalmonirhat district Awami League vice president Mahabubuzzaman Ahmed (56), headmaster of KUP High School in Kaliganj Khurshiduzzaman Ahmed (57) and Rangpur Divisional Assistant of Open University. Director Waheduzzaman Ahmed (53). 13 people including Tara have been named as accused in the case. Besides, 40-50 people have been named as accused.
According to the complaint of the case, on the afternoon of August 27, Tabassum Raihan Mustazir was working on the construction of a boundary wall on his land at Srikhata Mauza in Kaliganj. At that time, the accused persons went there with sticks, iron rods, daggers, hockey sticks and threatened to stop the work of the construction workers. When the accused persons broke the boundary wall and looted construction materials, Tabassum Raihan, the plaintiff in the case, stopped them. At that time, the attackers beat him on his hands, legs, back and the construction workers with sticks and iron rods.
Tabassum Raihan Mustazir, the plaintiff in the case, said, I have taken the court in this case. I gave a written complaint to the court of Lalmonirhat last Thursday through the lawyer. After hearing the complaint, the judge of the Lalmonirhat speedy trial court ordered the OC of Kaliganj police station to accept it as a statement on Sunday afternoon.
In this regard, the head teacher of KUP High School Khurshiduzzaman Ahmed said, “I do not know why this complaint was made in my name.” I was never involved in the incident he alleged. He complained against me out of personal grudge. This is never acceptable. We have respect for the law. They must investigate and uncover the correct information.
In this regard, Kaliganj Thana Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Kabir said, I have not received any order from the court yet. If this order is received, action will be taken after investigation.
