Lalmonirhat Burimari land port Clash between workers and Sardar’s group – 12 injured including journalists

At Burimari land port in Lalmonirhat, Sardar’s side clashed with common laborers over due money.  At least 12 people, including journalists, were injured in the clash.  Of these, 10 seriously injured have been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

The incident took place on Tuesday (September 12) at 3 pm. At that time, all traffic from the land port was stopped.  Police and BGB are deployed to stop the tension on both sides.

The injured are Asaduzzaman (25), a resident of Kalabagan area of ​​Burimari, Jamial (56) of Panditpara, Md. of Telipara.  Babul (45), Bangkandar Fatanur (40), Madhya Khilapur Md.  Noornabi (23), Ali Hossain (25) of Bamandal, Md. of Koillatari.  Suman (20), Tosa Sheikh (40), Sharif Uddin (30) and Monijul (23) of Guchchagram, Liton (30) and Asian TV’s Patgram representative MA Kamal (40), Kalbela newspaper’s Patgram upazila representative Mithu Murad.

It is known that the tension arose on Monday due to the dispute between the labor leaders over the outstanding wages of ordinary workers.  The highway was blocked. The Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) went to the spot and assured that the matter would be resolved after September 16. The blockade was lifted.

Later, since yesterday Tuesday morning, tension again arose between the two sides.  When UNO Nurul Islam went to the spot after receiving the information, he was kept under siege at the Plant Union Prevention Office from 12 noon.

In this situation, around 3 pm, both sides clashed with domestic weapons including sticks.  12 people including journalists were injured.  The injured were rescued and taken to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, from where 10 people were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Burimari-Patgram highway is closed due to the clash.  The police fired several rounds of rubber bullets to stop the clash, but both sides remained on the highway.  BGB and police are deployed at the spot.

The injured workers said that they have been protesting against Sardar for a long time to collect the due money.  Our peaceful sit-in program was interrupted by the police and tear-shelled.  In this, 10-12 workers were injured.

Medical Officer of Patgram Upazila Health Complex Doctor Nirab said that the injured are actually given first aid here. Among them, some seriously injured have been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.  Currently two-three people are admitted.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram police station Ferdous Wahid said that the situation is very calm at present.  Police are deployed at the scene.
