An old man named Matiar Rahman Kachu (60) has been arrested by the police on the charge of killing his wife by pushing him in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat. On Wednesday (February 15) afternoon, the police arrested him from his home in Telitari Paschimpara village of Sarpukur union of the upazila. He is a resident of Aditmari village. The deceased’s name is Jahanara Begum (46).Police and locals said that Jahanara Begum, a housewife, sleeps without food at night due to family quarrels. He didn’t eat anything in the morning and didn’t do any work. Enraged by this, husband Matiar Rahman Kachu pushed his wife hard. He was seriously injured when he fell into the pit. Later the village doctor came and declared him dead. On receiving the information, the police went and recovered the body and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hahaspatal Morgue. Husband Matiar Rahman Kachu has been detained from his home for questioning in this incident.
The detained husband said that Jahanara had not eaten anything since the night because she was proud of her daughter. When called to work in the morning, he did not do that either. So I hit him in anger. He fell into the hole and died. I did not push him to kill.Aditmari Police Officer-in-Charge (OC Investigation) Rafiqul Islam Rafiq said that the woman had injury marks below her neck. The victim’s husband has been detained for questioning. No complaint has been filed in this incident so far.
