Kulaura in modern forest office will be brought up to date with forest laws – Forest Minister

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin said that the current Forest Act was made by the British in 1927. Expropriation cannot be prevented by applying that law. We have taken the initiative of making a new forest law. The draft law will be proposed in the next parliament If the law is passed, all the forest land problems of the government will be solved.

He said these things during the inauguration ceremony of the modern building of the Range Office of the Forest Department at Gazipur in Kulaura on Saturday (February 11) as the chief guest.

The forest minister said that our target for the implementation of the government’s SDGs is to have 24 percent forests. Currently 14.1 percent is government forest. The government is working to increase the desired amount of forest. And in social forestry, houses, private institutions have a total of 22.37 percent of forestry. To increase afforestation in Sylhet division under the Sufal project, work of Tk. 75 crore is going on.

In response to the questions asked by the journalists at the end of the event, the Environment Minister said that Hakaluki Haor has been included in the Haor Development Board and the development activities are ongoing. Under the development project, excavation of the canal from Madhbukand to Haor is in progress and 3 billets, 18 ponds are being excavated in Haor area.

Under the chairmanship of Kulaura Upazila Executive Officer Md Mahmudur Rahman Khondkar, Sylhet Divisional Forest Officer Md Toufiqul Islam, Upazila Awami League President Rafiqul Islam Renu, Kulaura Municipality Mayor Sipar Uddin Ahmad, Divisional Forest Officer of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Upazila Parishad were present among others. Female Vice Chairman Fateha Ferdous Chowdhury Popi, Juri Upazila Vice Chairman Rinku Ranjan Das, Assistant Forest Conservator (Srimangal) Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique, Kulaura Range Officer Md. Riaz Uddin and others.

It should be mentioned that the beautiful and modern range office building of Kulaura Forest Department was built with the efforts of Environment, Forest and Climate Minister Md. Shahab Uddin. The building has been constructed at a cost of Tk 38 lakh 75 thousand under reforestation and infrastructure development project in Sylhet Forest Department to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
