The Officers’ Unit of Islamic University (IU) commemorated the 44th death anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with a discussion meeting and prayer session on Wednesday at 11 AM.
The event took place at the corridor of the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium. Present as the chief guest was Vice Chancellor Professor Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah, with special guests Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M. A. Yakub Ali and Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam.
The main speaker was Professor Dr. Md. Emtaz Hossain, Central Secretary General of Zia Parishad. The event was presided over by Md. Alauddin, President of the Zia Parishad Officers’ Unit at IU.
Other notable guests present included Professor Dr. A. B. M. Siddiqur Rahman Ashrafi, Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies and Chair of the University’s Deans’ Committee; Professor Dr. Md. Tozammel Hossain, President of the IU unit of the University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB); Professor Dr. Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary of Zia Parishad; Acting Controller of Examinations Dr. Md. Waliur Rahman Pikul; Professor Dr. Md. Shahinuzzaman, University Proctor; Professor Dr. Obaidul Islam, Student Advisor; Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Director of TSCC; Md. Sahed, Convener of IU JCD; and other leaders.
The speakers highlighted the political acumen, patriotism, and nationalist philosophy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, discussing the historical context and current relevance of his 19-point program and pragmatic approach to politics.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah said, “Ziaur Rahman was a pragmatic political leader. He initiated action himself and then engaged the people. His political ideology was rooted in service to the people.”
