It has been alleged that a young man named Saddam Hossain (28) committed suicide by hanging his wife on a video call in Manoharganj. Last Sunday (May 14) in the afternoon, a suicide incident took place in the large house of Narharipur village, Jholam South Union of the upazila. The deceased young Kuwaiti expatriate Saddam Hossain is the son of Abdul Hakim of Narharipur village. After receiving the news, police members recovered the body and sent it to Comilla morgue. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manoharganj Police Station Safiul Alam confirmed that the body was handed over to the deceased’s family after the post-mortem on Monday afternoon and a case of death has been registered at the police station. The family of the deceased claimed that Saddam’s relationship with his wife was not going well for several days. Saddam may have committed suicide in that turmoil.
According to local sources, about 8 years ago, Saddam Hossain, son of Abdul Hakim of Narharipur village, Jhlam South Union, was married to Nachima Begum, daughter of Samchul Haque of Mirzapur Amin village in the same union. The couple was always at loggerheads. Saddam is accused of drug abuse and wife beating. The couple also have a seven-year-old daughter. In one complaint, the people of the area including the local chairman and members sat and solved the problem in Shalis Darbar last 8 months. According to local residents, Saddam came home from exile after last Ramadan Eid. Neighbors said that almost every day they used to fight for various reasons. When the quarrel reached its climax, his wife Nachima Begum left Mirzapur Baperbari with her child two days ago. Saddam closed the door in his house on Sunday afternoon and made a video call to his wife Najma. At one stage of the argument with his wife, Saddam hanged himself with a rope. At that time, wife Najma called the family members and asked them to rescue her. The relatives of the house broke the closed door of the house and rescued Saddam and took him to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
