A human chain and protest rally was held in Comilla city in the wake of the heinous attack by miscreants on the country’s leading media house East West Media Group on Monday.
Ignoring the hostile weather, journalists working in Comilla held this program at Rafiqul Islam Muktamanch, the freedom fighter of Comilla Town Hall, in Kandirpar area, the heart of the city, on Tuesday (August 20) at 11 am. In addition to journalists, prominent people of various classes and professions participated in the program.
The nearly hour-long human chain and protest rally strongly condemned and protested the planned attack by miscreants on the East West Media Group. In addition, the senior journalists of the district protested against the recent attacks on other media houses.
The speakers in the protest rally said that seven institutions of East West Media Group including Kaler Kanth, Bangladesh Pratidin, News 24 Television are working for the welfare of the country and the people as the first line media of the country. Each of their media is publishing objective news. But conspirators and terrorists want to keep the media. That’s why they want to control the media. The attack on media houses in recent times shows that. We would like to inform the attacking terrorists – the media cannot be silenced by carrying out terrorist attacks like this.
Speakers also said that there have been incidents of attacks and torture on the media during the tenure of every Sarbarkar. We want to consider the current interim government as an independent government. Such attacks cannot be accepted at the beginning of this government. The government must ensure the freedom of the media. Therefore, the terrorists involved in this incident should be brought under the law immediately. They must be unmasked and brought to justice. If not, journalists from all over the country will start a Durbar movement.
