Health Minister ‘unhappy’ with budget allocation

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek could not be satisfied with the allocation for the health sector in the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24. He said that even if the amount of money in the budget of the next financial year has increased compared to the current year, it would have been beneficial if the budget was a little more to increase the scope of health care for people. The Minister of Health said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the newly built ICU at the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NITOR) in Sherebangla Nagar of the capital on Sunday (June 4). Zahid Malek said that in the new budget, 38 thousand 52 crores have been allocated for health, which is 5 percent of the total budget. In the previous financial year, the allocation for this sector was 5.4 percent of the total budget or 36 thousand 863 crore taka. According to the increased scope of health care, some more allocation in the proposed budget was required. Meanwhile, the health minister said that the tax on sugar has been increased. On the other hand, the price of sweets has been reduced. That is why diabetes cannot be made by eating more sweets. Again, the prices of cigarettes and tobacco products have been increased so that the health of the people is good. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek inaugurated the Intensive Care Center (ICU) at the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute at around 12 noon.
