Foreign Affairs Adviser M Tauhid Hossain said that the government wants the United Nations Fact Finding Mission to conduct an impartial investigation into the killing of protesters in the anti-discrimination student movement.

He said this during the press briefing after the meeting with the United Nations Resident Representative, Ambassador of Russia and Japan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (August 15).

In response to a question about the arrival of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission in Bangladesh, he said, the main thing is to help us, so that we can conduct the investigation properly. Those who deserve to be punished should be punished. The current government’s position is very clear. Those who committed and ordered these crimes must be brought to justice. It is our policy decision that the United Nations should assist in that regard. We will add them as decided. The remaining issues will be decided by the three ministries together.

They said that they will independently investigate their funding, when asked about that, the advisor said that funding is not everything. Let them do it freely. But if they go to investigate, they have to look at their safety. So no matter how independent we are, we must be dependent. This government also wants a transparent investigation. Let there be a legal system based on it. We want to do the work completely according to the law.

When asked whether the government will cooperate in an impartial investigation, he said, “We will definitely try to make an impartial investigation.” Its basis is acceptable to the whole world. A kind of criticism can come when the situation is about to do anything. So we would like it to be completely neutral, we will do whatever cooperation we need in that.
