Masum Talukder: 08 February 2023 Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed MP said that the work of making the country free of beggars is going on. The government is working to rehabilitate the beggars.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a function organized on the occasion of the inauguration of a temporary shed for the rehabilitation of beggars at the government shelter at Mirpur in the capital today.
The minister said that begging is a dishonorable act. The government is working to rehabilitate those engaged in this work. A multi-storied building will be constructed in the Mirpur shelter to provide shelter and vocational training to the beggars in the capital.
The minister also said that the government is providing houses and land to the homeless. Social security programs provide allowances, job training and grants for self-reliance to disadvantaged groups. Still some people do not turn away from almsgiving. The minister urged everyone to discourage begging.
During the inauguration, Social Welfare State Minister Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khosru MP, Dhaka 15 Constituency Member of Parliament Aga Khan Mintu and Director General of Social Services Department Dr. Abu Saleh Mustafa Kamal was present. Earlier, the minister inaugurated the newly constructed temporary shed for beggar rehabilitation.
