Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat has commented that the government agrees with the demands of journalists in determining the qualification of journalism.
The State Minister made this comment while participating in the panel discussion session of the workshop titled ‘Role of Media in Building Smart Bangladesh’ at the BCS Administration Academy Auditorium in Shahbag, capital, on Wednesday afternoon.
Ministry of Public Administration organized this workshop in collaboration with BCS Academy of Administration. Members of Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum participated in the workshop.
Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and academician Professor Dr. AMS Arefin Siddique, Senior Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and Senior Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. At this time, the state minister also said that there should be something to determine the qualifications of journalists according to the demands of journalists. Whenever the government says this, it will be said that the government is trying to control. That is why journalists should raise their voice on this matter. This should be written in all places in the country and abroad. You have to make a statement nationally and internationally that you want it. The government agreed with the demands of the journalists. The government has no problem with this. The government will resolve the issue.
He also said that all professional journalists demand that a definition of journalists should be determined, there should be an examination system, there should be a definition of who is a journalist and who is not a journalist. It is the journalists who say there should be a list of journalists. Why are you saying, because many amateurs have entered this community. By which journalists are the most affected. But whenever the government says that the list is being prepared, another group says why the list will be made to the journalists.
The state minister also said that the fight of information against misinformation is very important. The battle of information and disinformation is still going on. Journalists have an opportunity to play a role in preventing disinformation through training.
He added, the power of the Liberation War has been attacked at various times by propaganda and lies. Where truth stops, falsehood and falsehood take place.
Regarding the cyber security law, the state minister said that not only the cyber security law, but we all have to stand united against the misuse of any law. The government does not want innocent people to suffer through misuse of any law.
