The upazila administration has conducted a drive in the Gaudhuli Park area of ​​Goalanda upazila of Rajbari on charges of illegal sand extraction. At this time, the pipe of the sand extraction dredger was destroyed, the wrong connection was disconnected and two trucks carrying sand were seized.
On Wednesday (May 7), at 10 am, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Nahidur Rahman conducted a mobile court at Gaudhuli Park located in Riaz Uddin Para of Ujanchar Union of the upazila.
It is learned that Sheikh Nizam, former mayor of Goalanda Municipality, had been digging canals for fish farming in Gaudhuli Park of Ujanchar Union of the upazila for a long time. The drive was conducted there this Wednesday morning on the basis of allegations that the administration did not play a role in the digging of these huge ponds despite complaints from the people of the area.
In this regard, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Nahidur Rahman said, “Upon receiving information that the Gaudhuli Park authorities have been illegally extracting sand using dredging machines and selling it for a long time, a drive was launched at 10 am today and the pipe of an illegal dredging machine was destroyed, the connection of the water tank was disconnected and two trucks carrying illegal sand were seized. No fine was imposed as the authorities were not present at that time.
He further said that illegal extraction of sand using dredging machines will not be allowed in this upazila under any circumstances. This drive will continue in the public interest.
