Former President Abdul Hamid returns home

Special Correspondent: Former President Abdul Hamid of the Awami League government has returned home. He arrived in Dhaka on a Thai Airways flight (TG-339) at 1:30 am on Sunday. He was taken off the flight in a wheelchair. He was wearing a shirt and a lungi. The former president arrived in Dhaka on a Thai Airways flight (TG-339) at 1:30 am on Sunday (June 8). After landing, he went to the immigration counter in a wheelchair at 1:45 am. His immigration was completed at 2:45 am. Later, Abdul Hamid left the airport at 3 am. Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed the matter. He said that his (Abdul Hamid’s) immigration process has been completed. He has left the airport. Earlier, late on May 8, Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Bangkok for treatment on Thai Airways flight TG 340. There was a murder case against Abdul Hamid. This case was filed against him at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station on January 14. The case also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul, Obaidul Quader. After his departure, a storm of criticism started across the country. Action was taken against three police officers on charges of negligence of duty in the case of Abdul Hamid’s departure. They are Additional Superintendent of Police of Immigration Police Tahsina Arif, SI Md. Azharul Islam, the investigating officer of the case filed against Abdul Hamid at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station, and ATSI Md. Solaiman of SB. Abdul Hamid took charge as the acting president after the illness and death of the then President Zillur Rahman in March 2013. Later, on 24 April 2013, he was elected unopposed as the 20th President of Bangladesh. On 7 February 2018, he assumed office as the 21st President for a second term. He completed his presidential term on 24 April 2023 and was succeeded by Md. Shahabuddin.
