An inquiry committee has been formed into the beating of Kuakata Press Club finance secretary Hossain Amir by the Mahipur Thana police. He will complete the investigation within the next three days and send a recommendation to take action against the culprits. Patuakhali District Superintendent of Police Md. Saidul Islam BPM assured this after exchanging views with PPM journalists. The investigative committee headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Zubair Ahmed has already reached the ground on Thursday afternoon.
Sources in the Superintendent of Police’s office informed that this decision was taken after a meeting of senior journalists working in Kuakata, Mohipur and Patuakhali districts with the Superintendent of Police.
It is reported that on Wednesday evening, while going to collect news of the violence after the 12th Parliament election, Sub-Inspector Abdur Rob, Constable Aziz and Al Amin of Mahipur Thana police beat and dragged journalist Hossain Amir to the police van while taking pictures and videos. There, in the second phase, OC Anwar Hossain was harassed by Talukdar. At this time, journalist Hossain Amir was taken to the police station in a police van. Immediately after this incident came to know, news workers working in Kuakata Mahipur area rushed to the police station. There, the issue of unnecessary beating and harassment of Hussain Amir came up initially in the discussion with the media workers. Reporters present said that Mohipur police station OC Anwar Hossain Talukder has expressed regret for covering up the matter with various tricks. Expressing strong condemnation and protest of this incident, the Kuakata Press Club announced a human chain program demanding the removal of the OC of Mahipur Police Station and the prosecution of the guilty. The issue has sparked a storm of discussion and criticism through social media.
Later on Thursday morning Patuakhali District Superintendent of Police sat in a meeting at the office of the Superintendent of Police at 11 o’clock in coordination with the senior journalists of the district.
General Secretary of Patuakhali Press Club Zakaria Hriday, President of Patuakhali Television Journalist Forum Kajal Baran Das and General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Prince, President of Kuakata Press Club Nasir Uddin Biplab and General Secretary Zahirul Islam Miron, President of Kuakata Television Journalist Forum Anwar Hossain Anu and General Secretary Md Monirul were present in the meeting. Various media workers from Kuakata, Mahipur and Patuakhali were present along with Islam.
At that time, Superintendent of Police Md. Saidul Islam heard the complaints of BPM, PPM Bar, journalists and assured to take action against those responsible subject to a fair investigation through the investigation committee formed.
