Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has commented that it is not reasonable for any foreign country to intervene in the issue of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release, her treatment or her political activism.
He said, the matter of Khaleda Zia is internal to us. External interference in internal affairs is not justified. For BNP, it is more important to politicize him than his health. BNP could not create any political pressure to release Khaleda Zia. The law minister can say about his release.
He said these things at the inauguration of the Bangladesh Road Safety Project (BRSP) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday (June 14).
Obaidul Quader said, we have seen what happened in the name of democracy in the United States. Donald Trump has not yet conceded defeat. There are flaws in democracy, the institutional form is hard to find. Our democracy is not without flaws.
Regarding the election, he said, we have seen the ‘Aziz Marka’ election commission during the BNP period. They are remembered by the people of the country. Gazipur, Barisal and Khulna cities have been selected. Should anyone (referring to BNP) be satisfied with such an election? You have to come to the election to prove your popularity.
Awami League general secretary said that Khaleda Zia’s prison and the cancellation of caretaker government system were not done by Awami League. BNP could not even make a good movement to free Khaleda Zia. Top to bottom leaders of the party should resign taking responsibility for this failure.
Obaidul Quader said that Jamaat-e-Islami’s issue is under trial in the High Court to a question about Jamaat’s non-participation in the upcoming national elections. No final decision has been made. Jamaat is not a registered party, how will they conduct elections? He said, Awami League does not follow the prescription of Human Rights Watch. Bangladesh is moving forward, will go. Everyone is advised to look in the mirror. Awami League does not and will not submit to any pressure.
