Home and Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, My first priority in the Ministry of Home Affairs is to control the law and order situation and keep it normal. And the first priority of the Ministry of Agriculture is to increase the agricultural production and ensure the food security of the large population in this country.
The adviser said these things in response to questions from journalists after a meeting with UN resident coordinator Gwyn Lewis in his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital today.
Regarding the meeting, the advisor said, what kind of help and cooperation the United Nations can provide in the existing situation and in which sectors the government wants cooperation – it was mainly discussed. He said, when sending the ‘fact finding mission’ from the United Nations, what kind of help they will get from us and how they can help us – there was a discussion.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that the population of Rohingyas is constantly increasing. As a result, pressure has been created on our country. The adviser said, the United Nations is helping us in this regard. It was also discussed that they should increase cooperation in the future.
In the meeting, the senior secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Mohammad Abdul Momen, Senior Secretary of Security and Service Department Md. Moshiur Rahman NDC, Senior Human Rights Advisor of United Nations Resident Coordinator Huma Khan and related officials of the ministry were present.
