Feni-Comilla flood situation is unlikely to improve in 24 hours

In the next 24 hours, the waters of the Muhuri and Halda rivers in Feni and Chittagong districts of the southeast may flow over the plain. As a result, flood forecasting and warning center said that the flood situation may remain stable in the lower areas of these areas.

Sardar Uday Raihan, executive engineer of the organization told Jago News that the flood was sudden in Feni, Comilla, Noakhali. There was waterlogging due to continuous rain from last few days. However, due to the opening of dams in India, the water of the rivers is crossing the border. The flood situation in these areas is unlikely to improve in the next 24 hours. However, there may be some improvement if the rain subsides.

He said, according to the information of the meteorological agencies, moderate to heavy rain is forecast in the southeastern, eastern and adjacent parts of the country in the next 24 hours. As a result, the water of Muhuri, Feni, Halda, Sangu, Matamuhuri and Gomti rivers in this region can remain stable overall.

In a notification, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center said that in the next 24 hours, the water of the Gomti river in Comilla district of the eastern region may flow over the floodplain. As a result, short-term flooding may occur in low-lying areas adjacent to Gomti River.

According to information from meteorological agencies, moderate to heavy rains are likely to occur in the northeast and adjacent uplands of the country in the next 48 hours. As a result, the water level of the main rivers of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts in the northeastern region may sometimes rise at some points in the plain.

In the next 24 hours, the waters of Manu, Khoai, Dhalai rivers in Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts of northeastern region may flow over the plain. Flood conditions may remain stable in the lower reaches of these areas.

Incessant rains and landslides coming down from India have flooded large areas of Phulgazi and Parashuram upazilas of Feni. The water of Muhuri river is flowing 55 cm above the danger line. At the same time, as the water of Gomti river in Comilla is flowing over the boundary line, flood situation has arisen in various areas. Water has started rising in Noakhali region as well.
