Chairman of Kalishuri Union Parishad of Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali and Principal of Kalishuri Degree College. A retired army man named Al Mamun filed a case against Neshar Uddin Sikdar for extortion. Neshar Uddin Upazila Awami League Information and Research Affairs Secretary and Union Awami League President.
On Monday (August 19), local traders also formed a human chain in the Kalishuri market demanding the trial of the accused chairman-cum-college principal. It is known that the upazila administration took the initiative to install closed circuit (CC) cameras at important places in the upazila with the funding of the Test Relief (TR) project in 2022. But Awami League leader and UP Chairman Neshar Uddin spread party influence and embezzled it by intimidating local businessmen and residents.
Al Mamun, the plaintiff in the case, mentioned in the statement of the case that on May 25 that year, the UP Chairman collected Tk 5 lakh from the local businessmen and residents in the name of installing CC cameras under the threat of weapons. Neshar Uddin Sikdar even took 5 thousand rupees from him. UP Chairman Neshar Uddin Sikdar has been made the sole accused in this case filed on Sunday (August 18) and 21 local businessmen and residents have been kept as witnesses. Chairman Neshar Uddin Sikder was called on this matter but the phone was switched off.
After investigation, it is known that since the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, UP Chairman Neshar Uddin Sikder has been absconding. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bauphal police station Shonit Kumar Gayen said, I heard that a case has been registered against him in the court. Legal action will be taken at Ejahar police station.
