Special Correspondent: If all preparations are completed, elections can be organized even in the week before the start of Ramadan in 2026, said Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. This information was given in a joint statement issued by the Chief Advisor’s office after a meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London on Friday (June 13).
The joint statement said that today, BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman met with Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who is visiting London. Their meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere.
Tarique Rahman proposed to the Chief Advisor to organize elections before Ramadan next year. Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia also thinks it would be better if the elections were held at that time.
The Chief Advisor said that he has announced the elections to be held in the first half of April next year. If all preparations are completed, the elections can be held in the week before the start of Ramadan in 2026. In that case, it will be necessary to achieve sufficient progress on reforms and justice by that time.
Tarique Rahman welcomed this position of the Chief Advisor and thanked him on behalf of the party. The Chief Advisor also thanked Tarique Rahman for the fruitful discussions.
