Journalists of Jhalkathi observed the journalist’s standard program in Jhalkathi in protest against the attack on Eastwest Media media complex. Journalists of various electronics and print media working in the district took part in this standardization program for an hour on the road in front of Jhalkathi Press Club at around 12 noon on Tuesday. In the current situation, they protested the attack cases and looting of media and journalists in Sanghra.
Bangladesh Pratid, News 24 and Daily Sun Jhalkathi Correspondent SM Rezaul Karim moderated the speeches, former Deputy Commander Veteran Journalist Dulal Saha, Time Television Correspondent Palash Roy, Senior Lawyer and Journalist Nasir Uddin Kabir, Jhalkathi Television Journalists Association President Azmir Hossain Talukder, Joint General Secretary of Jhalkathi Press Club Asam Mahmudur Rahman Parvez, President of Jhalkathi branch of National Journalist Association Emdadul Haque Swapan, Independent TV representative Rahim Reza. Journalists and people of various professions participated in the human bond.
Journalists said that the media complex of the country’s largest media group, Eastwest Media, was damaged by the surprise attack. The duo attacked and vandalized the offices of Bangladesh Pratid, Kalerkanth, News 24, T-Sperts, Banglanews 20.com and FM Radio Capital. Some journalists were also injured. These scoundrels are the enemy of independent journalism. Journalists have never been able to publish news freely. Those in power have stifled the voice of journalists. Journalists are attacked and harassed with lawsuits when they report on social disharmony, corruption and irregularities. Since the last 5th, they have been demanding prosecution of attacks on media and attacks on media workers in various parts of the country, including Dhaka, and enactment of the Journalist Protection Act.
