The district administration has formed a five-member investigation committee to find out the cause of the bus accident in Chhatrakanda of Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila. At the same time, it has been informed that the district administration will bear the cost of better treatment of the injured. District Commissioner Farah Gul Nijhum said this while visiting the injured at Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital on Saturday (July 22). He said that if the relatives of those who have been identified want to claim the body without post-mortem, it is being handed over. Initially, it is believed that the bus driver was driving the vehicle while out of control. Everything will come out in the investigation. Meanwhile, Sadar Hospital’s resident medical officer Dr. Mehdi Hasan Sani said that the bodies of 17 people reached the hospital till half past noon. 35 people are admitted as injured. Two of them have been sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Among the dead were three children, six women and eight men. The police officers in charge said that 12 of the 17 dead have been identified. They are Bhandaria Md. Chalam (60), Sumaiya (6), Tarek (45), Md. Shaheen (25), Rahima Begum (60) and Abul Kalam, Abdullah (8) of Char Bowial, Ripa Moni (2) and Aybin Ahmed (22) of Mehendiganj and Nayan (16), Khushbu (19) and Khadija Begum (55) of Rajapur. Eyewitnesses said that the bus lost control and fell into a pond on the side of the road while passing an auto-rickshaw at a place called Chhatrakanda of Dhansindi Union on Barisal-Khulna Regional Highway with passengers from Bhandaria of Pirojpur to Jhalkathi. Locals launched a rescue operation and informed the police and fire services.
