Nearly thousands of farmers have been suffering for a long time due to the lack of renovation of the only water drainage canal connected to Harabati river from Naogaon Kanthali field of Aolai union of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat. Going to the surface, it can be seen that most of the 4 km canal connected to the Harabati river from Bihigram field to the east of Naogaon Kathali village of the upazila has been filled with weeds, weeds and soil. Because of this, during the monsoon season, waterlogging occurs due to the lack of drainage of about seven hundred acres of land in ten mauzas of three upazilas in addition to that area. During the monsoon, the water from the field is not drained and the water enters the village. Not only that, due to non-discharge of monsoon water on time, water accumulates in most of the fields during rabi crop cultivation season. As a result, farmers are complaining that many lands are left uncultivated as they cannot cultivate potato, mustard and other crops on time. In this regard, Hakim Mia and Shahid Mia, farmers of Naogaon Kanthali village of the upazila, said that during the monsoon season, the water of the land goes down to the Harabati river through the canal. But since this canal has not been renovated for a long time, the water of the land cannot go down in any direction. Rather, I cannot plant potatoes and mustard because of water in the land. Sabuj Hossain, another farmer of Kanthali village, said that he cannot plant rabi crops because the water in the land does not go down on time during the monsoon season. He demanded the concerned authorities to renovate this canal for the benefit of farmers. Local chairman Ekramul Haque Chowdhury Touhid said, initiatives have been taken to renovate this canal. The concerned authorities have already inspected this canal. Hope to be able to start digging soon. He also sought the cooperation of the land owners in this regard.
