Several areas of Rangamati’s Baghaichhari Upazila have been submerged due to continuous rains and landslides from upstream. Locals have suffered due to this.
Till Tuesday (August 8) morning, homesteads, arable land and roads in the low-lying areas of wards 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 of Baghaichari Municipality including Bangaltali, Baghaichari, Rupkari, Marishya, Amtali and Khedarmara Unions of the upazila have been submerged in the water of the hill.
Didarul Alam, UP member of Ward No. 4 of Baghaichhari Union, said that our East Lailaghona area is a geographically low area. As a result, the water of the Kachalong river quickly comes to the house. We got everyone safely to the shelter.
Baghaichhari upazila executive officer Rumana Akhter said that various areas of the upazila have been submerged in water. We are keeping track of every union and ward. So far 46 shelters have been opened and around hundred families have taken shelter in them.
He also said that the upazila administration, police, BGB, army are working together to deal with the disaster.
