AF Hasan Arif, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and Lands, said that the dengue situation in the country is at a tolerable level. Last year, 7 patients died of dengue on this day, today the death toll is 1. We have no chance of being satisfied with it. Our aim will be that not a single patient dies due to dengue.
The adviser said these things while talking to journalists after the meeting of the National Committee on Prevention of Dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases at the Secretariat on Sunday morning.
Hasan Arif said that measures have been taken to prevent dengue from increasing. Emphasis is placed on treatment and awareness. To increase awareness, campaign will be conducted every Friday in all religious places including mosques, temples. As part of long-term planning like developed countries, research activities to prevent dengue will be taken. Multicultural workers should be included to raise awareness about dengue.
On the issue of constitution and elections, he said, discussions are being held to reform the constitution and restore confidence in the electoral system. However, it is not yet decided in which process it will be. In this case, the opinion should be taken from the students. Whether the constitution is rewritten, amended or repealed will depend on the opinion of the students. He also commented that the Awami League government has suppressed the people by holding the constitution hostage.
He also said that reforms cannot be done in 15 days. This will take time. Arrangements will be made to make the electoral system acceptable to the voters. When will the next elections be held and the issue of bringing back the caretaker government will be decided by the students.
In response to another question, the adviser said that the electoral system should be brought back. The interim government is working on this. This government is the product of the mass uprising of the students. Students also have a role to play in this regard.
Regarding the law and order situation, the advisor said, it is true that the law and order situation in the country has not normalized in a month. They are yet to come out of the crime committed by the police in the July incident while carrying out party orders. The government is trying to normalize the law and order situation.
At that time, local government department secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman and heads of all institutions under the local government department were present.
