Police have recovered the body of a young man named Rubel Sardar (40) in the Public Health area of Rajbari.
The body of the young man was recovered from the balcony of a shop named Zaman Store at the Public Health intersection of the city at around 7:30 am on Wednesday (April 30).
Rubel Sardar is the son of the deceased Alam Sardar alias Alo of the city’s Dakshin Bhabanipur (Kahar Para) area.
Police claim that he was an accused in a robbery preparation case. However, he was out on bail in the case.
The family of the deceased claims that Rubel was killed. There is dust on his body. There was a lot of scuffle with him. This is not a natural death.
According to police sources, on the night of December 18, 2024, the District Detective Branch (DB) arrested Rubel Sardar and his accomplice Naeem Islam while they were preparing for a robbery from the Khankhanapur rail crossing area of Sadar Upazila. At that time, two Swiss gear knives used in the robbery were recovered from them. Rubel was on bail in the robbery preparation case.
Rubel’s younger brother Jewel Sardar said, “My brother used to run a paan and cigarette shop at Public Health More. He sold his shop before the last Ramadan. He has been unemployed since then. Due to marital discord, his wife Bonya has been staying at her father’s house in the Atash Colony area of the city for the past 4 months with their only daughter, Humaira, aged three.”
He also said, “My brother used to live alone in his house. I saw him in his room at around 11 pm on Tuesday (April 29). I don’t know when he left the house after that. Around 6 am on Wednesday, I received news that my brother’s body was lying in front of Zaman Store at Public Health intersection.’
Jewel Sardar said, ‘Looking at my brother’s body, it seems that this was not a natural death. There was dust on his body. There was a lot of struggle with him. The police have taken the body for autopsy. If the autopsy report finds that my brother died naturally, then we have no objection. And if he was murdered, then we want justice.’
Rubel’s wife Bonya said, ‘After Tuesday evening, my husband went to my father’s house and took his daughter to the market. He took his daughter from the market and bought food and then returned to me. Then around 7 am, I received news that my husband’s body was lying at Public Health intersection. My husband had suffered a stroke earlier. However, I cannot say exactly what caused his death today.’
Zaman Store owner Shahiduzzaman Shahin said that his son closed the shop around 7 pm on Tuesday due to the storm and went home. At around 7 am, he received news that Rubel’s body was lying in front of his shop.
In this regard, Rajbari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahmudur Rahman said, ‘The body of a person named Rubel Sardar has been recovered from the balcony of a shop at the Public Health intersection. The body has been sent to Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. No visible injury marks were found on the body. The real cause of his death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.’
