The fishermen of that trawler pulled the sinking trawler with a rope and brought it to Sonadia channel in Maheshkhali. Last Sunday (April 23) around 1:30 p.m., when the sinking trawler reached the Nazirertek (west of the airport) channel in Cox’s Bazar city, the hands and feet of the dead people were seen floating. All the deceased went into the sea with a fishing trawler on April 7. It is suspected that the trawler was sunk after the fishermen were trapped in the ice storage room. The investigation is going on. Jahangir Alam, a member of Ward No. 2 of Maheshkhali’s Hoanak Union Parishad, said that on the night of April 7, a trawler owned by Samshul Alam, a resident of his area, went fishing in the Bay of Bengal with 11 fishermen. The owner of the trawler, Samshul Alam and the navigator Mohammad Musao were in the trawler. After two days he (UP member) came to know that the trawler was sunk in the sea. But various stories were heard in the area about why it was sunk. According to the local people, Samshul Alam had a dispute with some other fishing boats over fishing in the deep sea. In the end, the fishermen of some trawlers beat the Samshul fishermen, tied the hands and feet of the fishermen and locked them in the fish room and sunk the trawler. Many people say that the pirates have sunk the trawler after looting the fish.

However, it has been confirmed that the trawler belongs to Samshul Alam. Khan Khalilur Rahman, senior station officer of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service, said that it does not seem like a normal accident after seeing the condition of the bodies recovered from the sinking trawler. The bodies were wrapped in netting and tied with ropes. The recovered trawler is lying on the coast of the city’s North Qutubdia Para. The trawler completely floated during the low tide. The trawler is currently in the custody of the police, said Md. Rafiqul Islam, OC of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.
