Comilla Correspondent: Shariful Islam has been serving as an inspector of the Comilla District Narcotics Control Department for the past one year and four months. Recently, several media outlets have been spreading propaganda against him, alleging bribery, corruption and various irregularities, which his family has alleged are baseless and purposeful.
Going deeper into the incident, the investigation reveals a different picture. Multiple responsible sources in the department, who did not want to be named, said that since he joined, more than 600 anti-drug operations have been conducted in Comilla under the leadership of Inspector Shariful Islam. A significant amount of drugs have been seized in these, which is many times more than before.
The sources also said that although Shariful Islam was promoted as a drug addict, in reality he does not even smoke. He got a job in this department on his own merit and has been performing his duties with honesty and morality since assuming office. This officer, who believes in Islamic values, has never compromised with any irregularities or corruption.
He is well-known and impartial in his personal life. It has been alleged that a group of evil people are intentionally spreading propaganda to humiliate him socially by raising the issue of a settled family misunderstanding and a matter pending in court. The concerned sources have termed these allegations as completely baseless, fabricated and condemnable.
In this regard, Inspector Shariful Islam said, “I have always worked from a place of morality and have never compromised with injustice. They have started spreading propaganda against me because I did not approve of the immoral activities of some individuals or groups. I remain honest and firm in my position. I hope that my higher authorities will look into the matter seriously.”
