Motorcyclist Mahfuzar Rahman (45) was killed in a collision between a motorcycle and a bicycle in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat. In that incident, the niece of the deceased who was behind the motorcycle and the cyclist were injured. Pedestrians rescued them and admitted them to Kalai Upazila Health Complex. The accident took place on Saturday (25 February) at 8 pm on the Jaipurhat-Bogra highway in front of the BRAC office of Kalai town. Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Moinuddin confirmed this information. The deceased driver is the son of Ibrahim Hossain of Madai village of Punat union of the upazila. Ariful Islam (25) and cyclist Mukul Hossain (50) of Thupsara Mohalla of the municipality were injured. According to related sources, Ibrahim Hossain and Ariful Islam are cousins.
According to the police and eyewitnesses, Mahfuzar Rahman was coming from Punt in the upazila towards Kalai. On reaching in front of the BRAC office on the Jaipurhat-Bogra highway, a bicycle hit him from behind and he lost control and fell on the road. Motorcyclist Mahfuzar, his niece Ariful Islam and cyclist Mukul Hossain were injured. The locals rescued them and took them to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared the motorcyclist dead. The injured have been admitted to Upazila Health Complex. Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Moinuddin said that the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy as there was no complaint in the incident.
