After the march of BNP in Jhalkathi, there was a clash between Jubo League-Chatra League and BNP leaders and workers. Six policemen including Sadar police station inspector Feroz Kamal and 9 activists including district BNP member secretary were injured. Police arrested 16 leaders and activists including District Youth Party Member Secretary Advocate Anisur Rahman in this incident. The incident took place in front of the district BNP office on Amtala road in the city around 12 noon on Saturday.
The injured policemen are- Inspector Feroz Kamal of Jhalkathi Sadar Police Station, SI Md. Shafiqur Rahman, SI Khokon Howladar, SI Nazrul Islam, ASI Kuhin Ahmed Shipon and Constable Motyar Rahman. They have been admitted to Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhalkathi Police Station Nasir Uddin Sarkar said that after the march announced by BNP, the activists threw stones and stones at the police when they came in front of the party office. Six policemen were injured.
However, BNP leaders claim that the police prevented their peaceful program. At the end of the program, the activists were standing in front of the party office. At that time, Chhatra League and Jubo League activists attacked the office. District BNP Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain along with 9 leaders and workers of Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal were injured. Around 10:30 am, the procession started from the district BNP office on Amtala road in the city. When the march went some distance, the police stopped it. Later, bypassing the police barriers, the march passed through Kalibari Road, Post Office Road and ended in front of the party office. Hundreds of party leaders participated with placards and banners. BNP has called for a nationwide march to protest against the rampant increase in prices of daily necessities including gas, electricity, rice, pulses, oil and flour. District BNP Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain said, we are taking a stand in front of the party office by carrying out a peaceful program. At this time Jubo League-Chhatra League activists attacked. Eight to ten of our leaders were injured by their brickbats. Jubo League-Chhatra League hurled bricks at the police. None of us got involved in the conflict. District Jubo League convener Rezaul Karim Zakir said that BNP leaders and activists threw bricks at police and Jubo League Chhatra League leaders and activists.
