Aminul Haque Shaheen, Chittagong Correspondent: On 3 June a seminar on granting probation for drug crimes was held at the conference room of the Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at the initiative of the Narcotics Control Department, Chittagong Metro. Probation is granted in many small-scale drug crime cases in Chittagong by the learned courts and it has been working as an effective justice system in the social field as an alternative punishment. To make it more effective, all the learned Metropolitan Magistrates, lawyers, police officers, probation officers, prosecutors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors of Inspection, Prosecutors, Sub-Inspectors of the Narcotics Control Department, Chittagong, all spoke about considering it as an alternative punishment in acceptable cases such as first offenders, minor crimes, etc. Everyone requested to formulate a policy for this. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Mizanur Rahman was present as the chief guest at the event and Humayun Kabir Khandaker, Deputy Director, Narcotics Control Department, Chittagong Metro, was present as the president.
