Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) held a comprehensive session on trade and investment titled “China-Bangladesh Conference on Investment and Trade” on Sunday, June 1, 2025, highlighting key areas for bilateral cooperation and innovation.
The session explored policy insights and market trends in Bangladesh, green solutions for sustainable environmental development, and new energy technologies including photovoltaic systems and energy storage. The discussions also focused on smart infrastructure and urban innovation projects, as well as the upgrading and modernization of Bangladesh’s textile industry.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Honorable Chief Advisor to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, graced the conference as the Chief Guest and H.E. Mr. Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce of the Government of China, as the Special Guest. At the conference attended by 250 investors and businessmen from about 100 Chinese companies, including top executives from 6-7 Fortune 500 companies. Top representatives from 04 Chinese chambers of commerce were also present.
In addition to providing opportunities to take advantage of trade and investment agreements across the entire supply chain, the session supports initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations in the food and agriculture sectors. Through strategic efforts, participants also discussed and explored how to strengthen cooperation in agribusiness, local products and animal by-products and promote high-value, sustainable trade.
The session is jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA), the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).
This is the first time that such a large number of Chinese investors and businessmen are visiting Bangladesh at the same time. It is worth noting that this conference is a direct result of the recent visit of the Chief Advisor to China and the investment conference held in April. The growing interest of Chinese investors opens up a significant potential for the Bangladesh economy.
