A young man named Rupal Sheikh was dragged from his house and beaten to death after a clash broke out in Rajapur, Basantapur Union, Rajbari Sadar Upazila, over a video of an expatriate’s wife taking a bath. The deceased Rupal is the son of Jinnat Sheikh of Rajapur village. Rupal was a van driver by profession.
Family members have alleged that he was dragged from his house on Friday (May 16) evening, tied up and beaten to death.
In this incident, on May 18 (Sunday), residents of the area formed a human chain to protest against Rupal’s murder and demand the arrest of the accused named Sham Biswas, Muktar Biswas, Rafizul Biswas, Ripon Biswas, Sourav Biswas, Russell Biswas, and Antar Biswas.
At that time, when Rajbari Sadar Police Station SI Sabbir Hossain went to investigate the case, there was anger among the locals because the main accused were not arrested, and later SI Sabbir Hossain was attacked after getting into an argument with the locals. Later, he was admitted to Rajbari Sadar Hospital. Police have arrested two people in this incident. Additional police have been deployed in the area.
Locals allege that the police have arrested innocent people after taking a large sum of money and the main accused are being released. They question the transparency of the police. An attempt is being made to divert the case.
Kalam Molla, the maternal uncle of the deceased Rupol, who is the plaintiff in the case, said in this regard – he himself does not know who the accused are in the case, the police station OC forcibly caught him and made him sign the case, and those who were arrested are innocent. He said, the Sadar Police Station OC caught me at night, took my signature in the case, I do not know who the accused are, I was not even informed, I am a stupid person, he sent me home in the morning. The police have hidden the main accused by taking money and those who have been caught are innocent. Sham Biswas, the accused in the case, owns a lot of money. We are weak in the face of money. He demanded the arrest of the real accused.
In this regard, Rajbari Sadar Police Station OC Md. Mahmudur Rahman said that only those involved in the incident have been arrested. A total of 3 people including Md. Zahiruddin Biswas, Md. Moizaddi Biswas, Md. Farhad Biswas, Md. Munnu Molla have been arrested in this incident. The case is being handled transparently. In response to a question from a reporter, he said, the case has been conducted with great sincerity, the accused have been arrested after the complaint, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the other accused. The police did not take any money or immoral benefits in this case. ‘
Aware circles believe that according to the statement of the plaintiff in the case, Kalam Mollah, the police forcibly took him and made him sign the case, the accused was arrested before the complaint was filed and in this incident, the human chain attacked the police. On the other hand, the Sham Biswas of the accused side are rich and influential, the human chain demanding the arrest of the main accused, the attack on the investigating officer, all of which together mean that the case has been handled differently by the police station.
