Moynul Bhuiyan: Caretaker government came into being in this country for BNP misrule and election rigging. You have seen the elections in 1996, you have seen the preparations for the elections in 2006 and early 2007, the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Haque MP commented that the caretaker government was born for this misdeed.
The minister made this comment at a gathering after the official inauguration of the renovation work of Brahmanbaria Press Club on Sunday (February 12).
Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Haque MP said, Awami League has no problem regarding any reasonable demand, and People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina also has no problem.
He said, when Corona was going on at the end of 2021, there was a demand that all the procedures for forming the Election Commission were written in our constitution. It is said there, a law must be made. It was said that the law does not exist, it must be done. An NGO leader came to me and gave me a circular. The law for the formation of the Election Commission should be made there. I said now is the time of Corona, to make a law Parliament should sit properly. When Parliament sits, we will make the law. They said, ‘Parliament does not need to sit, it is done with ordinance. I said, such a big law, such an important law will not be done without Parliament. Then President Abdul Hamid invited all the political parties separately. There is discussion that this law should be. We made the law that moment. The Act was passed with logical amendments from all parties. The Election Commission was formed through this Act.
The minister also said that after the passing of this law, now their (BNP) demand is the caretaker government. Why was the caretaker government formed? The caretaker government came into being in this country for BNP’s misrule and election rigging. You saw the elections in 1996, you saw the preparations for the elections in 2006 and early 2007, the caretaker government was born for this misdeed. When the Caretaker Government was litigated, the High Court said it was inconsistent with the Constitution. At no time has the constitution spoken of a caretaker government. Hence it is invalid and it is set aside. The Constitution was amended by Parliament to bring that repeal into line with the law. Now they have raised that demand again. Their demand means, we will hold elections but we have to win. All mani palm trees are mine.
Javed Rahim Bijan, Member Secretary of the Press Club gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the program.
Brahmanbaria press club convenor Riaz Uddin Jami presided over the event as special guest was Brahmanbaria-3 Constituency Member of Parliament Ram Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, Brahmanbaria-2 Constituency MP Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, Reserved Member of Parliament Umme Fatema Najma Begum, Deputy Commissioner Md. Shahgir Alam, Zilla Parishad Chairman Al Mamun Sarkar, Superintendent of Police Shakhawat Hossain and Municipal Mayor Nair Kabir.
