Body recovered from pond in Rajbari

Police have recovered the half-melted body of an unidentified young man from an abandoned pond in Rajbari.

The body was recovered from Chandu Sheikh’s pond in Bilnayabad village of Mulghar union of Sadar upazila at around 10 am on Monday (May 26).

Chandu Sheikh’s wife Saleha Begum said, “We only use jute to make a pond in front of our house. Besides, the pond remains abandoned all year round. The pond is still full of kachuripana. Around 8 am, my sister Aleya Begum went to collect papaya from the papaya tree on the bank of the pond. At that time, she saw the body floating in the pond among the kachuripana and called me. I ran and saw the body and called the people of the area. Later, the people of the area informed the police station.”

She said, “We do not recognize the body. I didn’t even smell anything. My husband is a farmer, the police have taken him away.’

Locals say that the face was burned with acid or fire to make the body unrecognizable.

However, the police said that the body had been lying in the pond for 6 to 7 days. As a result, the face had turned black due to rot.

Inspector (Investigation) of Rajbari Sadar Police Station Rasel Molla said, ‘In the morning, locals saw the body floating in the pond of Chandu Sheikh in Bilnayabad village and informed the police. After receiving the information, the body was recovered. The estimated age of the deceased is 40 to 45 years. His identity has not been identified yet. There are no injury marks on the body. Initially, we thought that the body had been lying in the pond for 6 to 7 days. Due to which the face of the body has turned black due to rot. It is also believed that the body may be that of a mentally unstable person. He further said, “The CID crime scene team has arrived from Faridpur to identify the body. A post-mortem report will be prepared and the body will be sent to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal action will also be taken after investigating the matter.”
