BNP’s May Day Workers’ Rally at Nayapaltan; Tarique Rahman to Join Virtually

Thousands of BNP leaders and activists have already gathered in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.

On the occasion of International Workers’ Day (May Day), the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is holding a workers’ rally today, Thursday, in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.

BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to join the rally virtually from London and deliver a speech on the current labor situation in the country.The rally is organized by BNP’s affiliated labor wing, the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal. Leaders and activists from not only Dhaka but also nearby districts like Narayanganj, Gazipur, and Tangail have reportedly joined the event.

Since the morning, BNP leaders and activists from various parts of the capital have been arriving at Nayapaltan in processions. As the day progressed, the crowd extended beyond Nayapaltan to surrounding areas such as Kakrail, Fakirapool, and Shantinagar, causing a complete halt in vehicular movement on those roads.The main part of the rally officially began at 2:15 PM with the recitation of the Holy Quran by BNP’s Olama Dal senior joint convener Qari Golam Mostafa.

Earlier, from around noon, a cultural program took place on the stage, featuring performances by members of BNP’s cultural organization—Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS).

Leaders from different levels are currently addressing the gathering. The rally, presided over by Sramik Dal president Anwar Hossain, is being attended by BNP Chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman, vice chairman Ahmed Azam Khan, assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, among others.Additionally, BNP’s media cell informed that various programs by the Sramik Dal are ongoing at divisional, district, and upazila levels across the country.
