Vandalism and cocktail explosions have occurred at the BNP office in Comilla. On Saturday (May 17), arson and vandalism occurred at the Metropolitan and South District BNP offices in the city’s Kandirpar area around 8 pm. Additional police were deployed there immediately after the incident.
According to police and local sources, the new committee of Comilla South District and Metropolitan Chhatra Dal was announced last Thursday night. The deposed leaders and activists held a protest and protest program on the same day after not getting the desired posts. The next day, on Friday, while the deposed leaders and activists held a joyous procession, the deposed leaders and activists protested demanding the cancellation of the committee.
On Saturday evening, the deposed leaders and activists took a protest procession demanding the cancellation of the ‘pocket committee’. During this time, they set fire to the office furniture and several cocktail explosions occurred.
Fakhrul Islam Mithu, the recently outgoing president of Comilla Metropolitan Chhatra Dal, said, “Since the announcement of the committee, the deprived leaders and activists have been continuously protesting. In the end, it turned into a clash. However, I do not know who set the fire.”
Yusuf Molla Tipu, general secretary of Comilla Metropolitan BNP, said, “Those who set fire to the BNP office may be allies of fascism. We are looking into the matter seriously and have also requested the law enforcement agencies to investigate.”
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, Mohinul Islam, said, “Although the incident of cocktail explosion and arson in front of the BNP office is their internal matter, we are investigating the incident. Additional police have been deployed for security reasons.”
